  4. One of Rome’s most notorious artists was an enigmatic and rebellious painter who was equally talented as
he was dangerous. Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio, (born 1571, died 1610), is considered the great Baroque painter who ushered in the era of modern painting.

  5. In honor of the 400th anniversary of his death, we have created a special walk through Caravaggio’s Rome, which includes some of his most important paintings, on display in Rome’s best “Museum Churches,” where they were originally unveiled- creating outrage and condemnation for his use of peasants and prostitutes in starkly lit settings that still evoke tension and mystery today.

  6. Caravaggio’s work inspired many famous artists like the Dutch master Rembrandt and Diego Velazquez, yet after his death, he was mainly forgotten. His troublesome story is rife with murder, brawls and bribes. Pursued by bounty hunters and patron Popes at the same time, the sword toting artist and his indiscretions have become the hot new subject of biographies- at least one every year now!

  7. Reserve this private adventure for an amazing opportunity to walk through the Rome that Caravaggio knew, full of princes, cardinals and common folk who would be the models in his paintings, and a prostitute he adored, named ‘Lena’.
